Tiffany New, Licensed Massage Therapist and owner of A New You Massage Therapy and Bodywork has been a Guest at TerraLuna since September, 2022 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.

What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?

After suffering from a low back injury, I began to seek out forms of exercise that would strengthen my core and help my back recover. I found Mat Pilates at a local gym and started going a couple days a week. I immediately fell in love with the Pilates movements and how they made me feel. I remember walking out to my car after class and needing to adjust to the rearview mirror because my posture had improved. I was amazed by how quickly my back began to feel better and how connected I became to the rest of my body through practicing Pilates. I have now been practicing Pilates for about 16 years.

Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?

Pilates helps me keep my core and body strong so that I can continue doing all the things that I love to do everyday!

What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?

The classes I enjoy at TerraLuna are Athletic Reformer, Barre, and Turn & Burn. But Turn & Burn is becoming my favorite class! I love the combination of cycling and barre plus the class leaves me feeling energized.

What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?

Oh the arm workouts in the hand straps have always been a challenge for me! But given time and effort those exercises have become easier. That's the wonderful thing about Pilates is you can see and feel your improvements week by week.

Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.

My favorite prop has to be the Pilates circle, aka ring of fire. Because you're going to feel the burn! I love how many different ways you can utilize the ring to work out different muscle groups. My least favorite prop would be the hand weights. Never has one pound felt so heavy than when doing arm circles.

If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?

I may be the only one but I really enjoy planking on the Reformer, especially with movement. Like a plank into a pike into a plank. The Reformer somehow makes planking easier yet harder at the same time while making me feel strong.

How do you define "wellness"?

I would define wellness as a practice of doing something on a regular basis, that helps to improve our physical, mental, emotional or spiritual well-being. My wellness practice includes Pilates, yoga, massage, walking, a morning routine, and meal prepping to name a few.

Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?

I was over 3 months premature. My due date was April 1st and I was born January 22nd. I sure fooled my mom!

Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?

I cannot live without chocolate, especially dark chocolate.

Thank you Tiffany, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
