Ladasia Thomas has been a Guest at TerraLuna since May, 2025 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.
What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?
Prior to beginning at TerraLuna, I lived a fairly sedentary life. My days consisted of sitting at a desk all day and then coming home to sit for dinner, going to bed, then repeat. As I have aged, doing every day tasks like carrying in groceries or a laundry basket just became more difficult. I've always felt that I didn't have the muscle and strength that I should but these moments made me stop and realize, if I didn't start making changes now, my body would keep deteriorating making every day more and more difficult. I started with walks and then I kept seeing Pilates videos. Going to the gym seemed a bit too intimidating for me being that, I've honestly avoided working out and sweating at about all costs but Pilates seemed much more welcoming and beginner friendly. So, I made the leap 8 months ago and haven't looked back!
Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?
My biggest goal was strength and my second was flexibility. I'll never forget the day I carried what would've been an incredibly heavy set of bags for me 8 months ago straight up my steep front porch steps into my house. I did it swiftly and with 0 effort. At that moment I knew I was actually making real progress in building a foundation of strength. I still can't touch my toes yet but I can tell my hamstrings are unthawing!
What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?
I have taken the Beginner's Reformer, Reformer, StretchLates, Jump Lite, Dance Fitness and Barre classes offered at TerraLuna. StretchLates and Jump Lite are my two favorite classes for completely different reasons. StretchLates is very calming and I feel like the intentional stretches really reconnect my mind and soul back to my body. I just feel completely present and relaxed. Jump Lite is a completely different beast! It's challenging and really commands your mind and body to work together. While it is (very) challenging it's also fun. Utilizing the jump board just makes you feel like you're flying through the air. Your quads will feel like they're ready to fall off but it's like a badge of honor that makes you want to keep going back.
What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?
Keeping my core engaged and having proper alignment. My posture could be likened to that of a croissant. Unless you're doing a C-curve that's very clearly not a great habit to have for Pilates. It took a lot of intentional repositioning of my shoulders and practicing pulling in my core in every day life but the more I practiced the more natural it felt.
Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.
Favorite: The box. You can use it for so many things and it's sooo great for getting really good stretches. I just really love the versatility.
Least favorite: The squishy ball. Specifically when we use it on legs and then need to pulse. This is the one prop that really tests my level of commitment lol!
If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?
I would say the Offer Up & Hug a Tree. Kneeling on the reformer and doing these two make me feel super confident.
How do you define "wellness"?
I define wellness as a continual pursuit of finding balance. We as humans have so many areas of life (Work, finances, mental health, physical health, social circles, etc) we physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally interact with. Wellness is keeping all of those in a high functioning, healthy and sustainable state. When I evaluated my life I was feeling pretty confident and aligned with all of those areas except my physical health so, I integrated Pilates and better food habits to bring that balance back in!
Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?
When I was a kid, my dream job was was a judge. Very specially divorce court. I don't know if I'll do that specifically but I do still plan to study law one day!
Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?
Rib tips, hands down. I've been going to Goodies BBQ for quite literally as long as I can remember. No matter where I go I will always come back ribtips.
Thank you Ladasia, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
