Alyssa DeWitt has been a Guest at TerraLuna since December, 2024 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.
What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?
My sister convinced me to try the Beginner's Class in October 2024. I started slowly and by January, I realized I really enjoyed going to classes and was encouraged by how much stronger I felt. So I started going consistently 2x per week and haven't stopped! Thanks Laura!!
Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?
My goal when I started Pilates was to simply start exercising again. Exercise has been a big struggle for me my entire life and before this year, I hadn't consistently exercised since 2014. The fact that I have been doing this for a year as consistently as I have is a really big deal for me! I have also been getting stronger, which is awesome.
What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?
I take Reformer classes with a sprinkling of Athletic Reformer. I don't have a favorite class because I learn new exercises consistently in both classes!
What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?
Planks! I am still working on them, but I can really see the improvement I've made.
Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.
Favorite: Magic ring and long/short box
Least Favorite: squishy ball, we have a "sometimes love/mostly hate" relationship
If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?
I love pull ups! I have never been able to do a "real" pull up before and doing them makes me feel strong! I also love any glute strengthening activity.
How do you define "wellness"?
I'm still figuring out what I think "wellness" means for me. But so far, I'm a believer in "everything with moderation" for both "bad" AND "good" things. I also try to give myself grace when it comes to exercising and remember that doing some sort of exercise is better than doing nothing!
Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?
I have two! First, I broke both of my arms at the same time- the doctor described them as "nuisance" breaks, which meant they would heal fast and I didn't need casts! The second is I had an extra baby tooth that grew between my two front teeth! So I had 3 front teeth until at least kindergarten.
Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?
My true answer would be water, but if water is guaranteed it would be a tie between Diet Pepsi and wine.
Thank you Alyssa, for sharing a bit about yourself (and this picture of you and your sibs- the aforementioned Laura on the left, Josh in the middle, and our Alyssa on the right) and your Pilates journey!
