Marcia Koenig has been a Guest at TerraLuna since ------- and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.
What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?
About a year ago, I happened upon my friend Kelli Kurtz’s TerraLuna Guest Spotlight and was intrigued. The next day, I was driving past the studio after Pickleball and Lynelle happened to be standing out front—I made an immediate (and probably illegal) U-turn, ran across the street and introduced myself. Lynelle invited me inside to chat and I never left😊
Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?
My goal is more of a lifestyle—to be at my best physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally for whatever phase of life I happen to be in. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome, so I try to focus on building better habits, not chasing certain results. Pilates at TerraLuna quickly became a habit that feeds me physically (the workout), mentally (the focus on correct form), socially (the deepening friendships), and emotionally (the non-judging, always supportive atmosphere).
What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?
I have taken all of the classes (except Gentle Movers) and my favorite is Athletic Reformer with either Lynelle or Nancy.
What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?
I am getting better at not socializing (too much😲) during class, and maybe Climb a Tree.
Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.
I love the spiky half ball and I don’t love the restraining strap, although I appreciate its purpose.
If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?
Planks! All of them!
How do you define "wellness"?
Add a strong faith in God to my lifestyle aspirations discussed previously and that defines wellness for me.
Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?
I was a certified Spinning and Group Exercise Instructor part-time at the YMCA for about 10 years, mostly in 5:30 am classes. I have replaced those early morning classes with Mah Jongg, Pickleball and Pilates!
Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?
Anything authentic Italian, from Prosciutto wrapped melon to Italian wines, and everything in between!
Thank you Marcia, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
