Guest Spotlight: Meet Sarah

Sarah Dankhoff, Owner of Wildfire Hygge Goods & Wildfire Hygge Home, both in downtown Hamilton, has been a Guest at TerraLuna since November, 2022 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.

What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?

I started Pilates after being recommended to TerraLuna by three trusted friends - Krista, Jen, and Addi. I have been active my whole life and loved weightlifting before an injury in 2020. Previously, I had not found any activity outside of physical therapy that allowed me to work out without aggravating my injury. Pilates completely changed my quality of life! Not only am I able to be active in class, I am also off my pain medications and able to move beyond class without pain!! I can pick up my babies and walk, run, play, and garden - all things I could not do anymore before starting Pilates!!

Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?

I made a goal in Fall 2022 to get off of my pain medication. I was off it within 6 weeks of Pilates! My new goal is to start slow with weightlifting this Fall. I feel hopeful that Pilates has built my core strength so I can enjoy more types of workouts!

What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?

I take any class that starts at 10 or 11am - haha! But mostly, I take Reformer class.

What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?

100's (or 50's) and C curve felt impossible in the beginning. Now I love the challenge!

Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.

I have been loving the ring lately - as I've got stronger, I see it form into an oval which is a really cool visual sign of improvement. I don't like laying on the spikey ball, it makes my sciatica angry.

If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?

Does running into class with an iced coffee on the second set of church bells count as a signature activity!? If so, that's mine.

How do you define "wellness"?

For me, wellness starts with a healthy mind and self-talk. From there, wellness is honoring what my mind, body, and spirit need in that particular season (and sometimes simply on that particular day).

Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?

I love to write! I had a poem published when I was 15.

Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?

If I were a car, coffee with half & half is my gasoline.

Thank you Sarah, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
