Guest Spotlight: Meet Sandee

Sandee Barrett has participated in Reformer Pilates (started with beginner as a refresher), StretchLates, and Footstrap Focus at TerraLuna since July, 2022 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.

Would you share with us your Pilates story and how long you've been practicing Pilates?

My daughter got me started 7 years ago. I was very inconsistent, though had started to be a "regular". Then Covid hit. The location reopened but did not require masks, so I dropped for a while. In the meantime, the location closed. I have returned again finally as of the end of July. Lynelle-thanks for the new location.

What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?

Pilates has improved my flexibility and core strength tremendously. Several of the stretches such as child's pose were very difficult to do as were planks. I have very tight quads and they are once again showing flexibility. Getting off the floor when with my grandchildren has been a Lucy Ricardo picture. I'm getting better though.

Do you have an activity that you currently struggle with? If so, what are the challenge that you experience?

I have 5 grandchildren between 5-8. Playtime with them requires much dexterity-whether it is playing on playground equipment (you know-climbing on to the fort) or creating a dinosaur jungle on the floor. Although my legs in general are strong, the use of my quads is an area to improve. Balance due to a number of ankle sprains and torn ligaments is also an area affecting balance that I can improve. Additionally, like many women, my arms are not my strongest area, but I need to have better arm strength while I am playing with grandchildren, loading them into the car or just picking them up for hugs.

Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.

Hmmm...is the box a prop? Both least (I hate planks) and most (I need planks). The ring does a great job to help increase the stretching.

If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?

I love the piriformis stretch.

Do you have a goal you'd like to share with us or perhaps a little-known fact about you?

Goal: to remain intellectually curious even though retired. Little known: I have skydived, parasailed and took flying lessons.

Do you have words of wisdom to share with other Guests?

Like Nike.....just do it!

Finally, what is one food/drink/item you cannot live without?

Just plain water although margaritas with a salted rim are a current guilty pleasure.

Thank you Sandee, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
